The greatest curriculum in the world is worthless without a skilled teacher.  When we think back to the teachers, coaches and mentors that made an impact in our lives, we know that they understood more than the material they were teaching.  They understood how individuals learn and how to motivate us.  They also embraced the importance of serving as role models in all aspects of their lives.

All of our instructors are skilled martial artists, but that is only the first step.  The ITA five level instructor program develops instructors who transform a martial arts class into an educational experience where no one sits on the bench and all students feel safe and are empowered on their own martial arts journey.  Overstreet TaeKwonDo - David Overstreet / Chief Instructor - Alamogordo, NMThe ITA has the highest requirements and standards for its instructors including a 250 hour apprenticeship program, comprehensive written, physical and oral exams, criminal background checks, and continuing education requirements to incorporate the evolution of sports science and teaching techniques.  The ITA also provides special training in ADHD, ADD and other behavior disorders so that we can help children with these challenges be more successful.

David Overstreet is the chief instructor and is on the deck for most classes, but we also have a team of great instructors.  All classes are taught by a Level 3 or higher instructor who follows a detailed plan which ensures that each class is exciting and covers the material needed to develop great martial artists.  Additional instructors assist with the classes to ensure a good instructor to student ratio giving each student the individual attention they need.

"Mr. Overstreet is really a great instructor, for kids and adults as well. He has taught Mathis to always set himself new goals and to achieve those goals, not only in Taekwondo, but in all aspects of life...Mr. Overstreet has influenced me as well, especially my work with children at school and in Taekwondo. He has taught me how to be a confident and caring leader to the children by using positive reinforcement to create a positive learning. environment." - Alexandra L. (read more)
